BlackBerry has released a statement denying that it has had any talks with Samsung.
Reuters had first reported that the Korean smartphone company Samsung had offered US$7.5 billion to buy BlackBerry in an attempt to gain access to its patent portfolio.
In a press statement, Blackberry responded to the report, saying: “BlackBerry has not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase BlackBerry. BlackBerry’s policy is not to comment on rumors or speculation, and accordingly it does not intend to comment further,” said the company.
Meanwhile after the publication of Reuters' report, shares for the Canadian phone manufacturer soared nearly 30% only to fall back about 15% after the statement was released.
Blackberry's struggles in the recent years have been well documented. The smartphone maker reportedly also shunned several takeover attempts, according to Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail.
In recent years, the company even sent out an open letter pleading with consumers to give it another chance, prompting audiences to slam the PR stunt. (Read more on: Dear Blackberry, here's where you went wrong).
