Two firebombs were hurled at the headquarters of Next Media and the home of former president Jimmy Lai Chee ying around 1am on Monday morning.

According to Next Media publication Apple Daily, the first attack occurred around 1am in the morning when a masked man jumped out of a vehicle and hurled a glass bottle at the front gate of Lai's residence on Kadoorie Avenue. The fire was soon put out by security guards with fire extinguishers, no injuries were reported.

Shortly after a similar device was dropped at the front gate of Next Media at Tseung Kwan O from a masked passenger of a similar vehicle, which then drove to another entrance and threw another device, CCTV footage shows.

Images on Apple Daily show limited damage on the Next Media HQ's gates, while daily operations in Next Media have not been affected by the incident.

Two vehicles allegedly involved in the incident were later found destroyed by fire on Tai Wo Ping Road and Sham Mong Road. The investigation is still on-going and no arrests have been made.

Lai, who recently quit as CEO and chairman of the Next Media board after being arrested for his participation in the pro-democracy protests last year, has received attacks on both his home and his workplace at Next Media buildings for some 20 years. That includes three bomb attacks to Lai's former residence on Tai Po Road since 1993.
