eBay is considering a plan to slash up to thousands of jobs next year, close to 10% of its workforce, or 3,000 employees, said the Wall Street Journal.

“We are focused on running the business and setting eBay and PayPal up for success as independent companies,” eBay spokeswoman Amanda Miller told Reuters. The cuts are expected to be made in its marketplace division. Marketing has reached out to eBay to ask if this will affect its Asia operations and will be updating the article.

By the second half of 2015, eBay is expected to split off from PayPal, which the former earlier acquired in 2002 for US$1.5 billion. PayPal will be spun off as a separate, publicly-traded firm.
