Since 2012, the Marketing Excellence Awards has crowned Singapore’s Marketer of the Year representing the best in the industry and this year the search is still on with the deadline for submissions extended to 17 September.
Health Promotion Board took home the prize in 2012 after defeating more than 60 finalists across 17 categories. They were awarded three gold, one silver and one bronze in categories including Excellence in Advertising and Excellence in Consumer Insights / Market Research.
One of Health Promotion Board's winning campaigns "Ong & Raj" took on the serious challenge of increasing testing for Colorectal Cancer among Singaporeans and approached it with heart. Deciding to address the fear among the older generation in Singapore (over 50) of discovering cancer Health Promotion Board used local male characters Ong and Raj and lighthearted humour to encourage screening for early detection. The campaign, which was mainly focused around a series of TVCs was highly successful resulting in 55% of the target audience indicating they intended to go for CRC screenings surpassing the 5% target originally set.
Last year SingTel was the clear winner against over 70 brands with eight golds in categories including Excellence in Advertising, Brand Strategy, Consumer Insights/Market Research, Content Marketing, Experiential/Event Marketing, Integrated Marketing (Consumer), Marketing Communications and Media Strategy. They were also second in Public Relations and Viral Marketing and finished it up with a Bronze in Media Strategy.
'SingTel Hawker Heroes' was SingTel's top campaign, receiving eight golds and a silver. The campaign centred around one of Singapore's passions, local food and hawker culture and offered a challenge to world renowned chef Gordon Ramsey. To enhance involvement the general population was asked to help choose which three hawker chefs across a series of platforms (or Hawker Heroes) would take on Ramsey and defend the nation's culinary pride with three dishes. The Hawker Heroes came out victorious but Ramsey won in the Chilli Crab category. The campaign was more than a success with the National Library Board even requesting that the campaign be commemorated a part of the National Singapore Memory Project. Most of all it resulted in a 60% increase in people with a positive and friendly perception towards SingTel.
In 2014, the addition of four new categories will make it a total of 26 open for entry covering the diverse marketing disciplines and the competition will be even fiercer. A panel of distinguished expert marketers will determine the fate of the campaigns up for contest and the finalists and winners will be recognised at a ceremony on 13 November at the Singapore Marriott Hotel.
So how do you ensure you can grab the top glory? Don’t miss out on being in the running for the Marketing Excellence Awards by submitting your best work for entry online before the 17 September deadline.
