Social syrup: this week’s trends

Hill Knowlton Strategies and Rice5

One of our top rated posts on social networks was a burn for agencies this week, when we highlighted an app that helps marketers dump their agencies - ouch.  The timing, April 1, makes the app's viability and longevity doubtful, but the agency insists it's real...

April Fools Day was a big hit with our readers on our social platforms when we rounded up some of the best work done by brands to create buzz around the international day of the prankster and the tech brands, as usual, shone, including Google, e-tailer Zalora and Groupon. You can check out our popular round up  here.

Other social trends included twitter asking users to tweet the despicable "King Joffrey" of Game of Thrones fame off his throne through a DDB driven SKY New Zealand activation project for the series.

Additionally a digital agency story that of Hill+Knowlton Strategies (H+K) acquiring Rice5, also trafficked well across our social platforms this week, many of you are no doubt keeping a close eye on the trend for PR agencies to want digital capabilities right under their own roof.

There was also plenty of interest in one of journo's first hand account from Utah at the Adobe Summit - some good insight into where digital marketing is heading and some nice wide eyed honest reporting from a first time tech junketeer! Also there are some nice pics of Adobe's pretty impressive HQ.

Of course it wouldn't be a social roundup without Starbucks apologising to someone for something, and this time it was for what else but a barista drizzling satanic symbols on a Louisiana schoolteacher's coffee.
